每年邻近圣诞节(有如先前《格林奇》、《圣诞老人2》)，好莱坞都会制作有关圣诞题材的电影。不过《圣诞精灵》与其他大制作有很多不同，首先，本片并没有花大价钱请出明星阵容，反而另辟蹊径，从剧本的不同角度重新诠释圣诞的意义；其次要说的便是新线影业眼光的独到之处，11月的第4个星期四是美国传统的感恩节，也是圣诞大战的硝烟四起的前哨，本片在“感情和恩惠”上大做文章的同时又避开了与圣诞档宏篇的大撞车，可谓用心良苦。反看中国电影，这样的营销策略倒也颇为值得回味一番。
[剧情简介]
圣诞邻近的飘飘雪夜，问问你心中的精灵，自己有没有淡忘什么……
1968年的圣诞前夜，圣诞老人(爱德华·艾斯纳饰)光临一家孤儿院，为这些无家可归的孩子们送去礼物，然而令人意想不到的是，一个淘气的小baby却迷迷糊糊的爬进了圣诞老人的玩具袋子里，阴差阳错，被圣诞老人背回了老家——北极。
由于圣诞老人不能任意出入北极，况且这个孩子有无家可归，仁慈的圣诞老人便决定把他留下来。很快，在他和小精灵们的帮助下，这个孩子适应了北极世界的一切，不过毕竟不是与生俱来的精灵族群，随着年龄的增长，渐渐步入成人阶段的他发现自己的身高比其他的精灵高出三倍，大家给他了一个绰号叫大个巴迪(威尔·法瑞尔饰演)，这更让他感到自己已经不再属于这个精灵世界。
巴迪决定向圣诞老人请假回纽约寻根，找到真正属于自己的家。对现实世界的陌生使他面临严峻考验，他遇到了失散已久、素未蒙面的父亲沃尔特(詹姆斯·卡恩饰)以及一群新家人。身为儿童刊物出版商的沃尔特正在策划有关圣诞题材的图书发行事宜，这样一个胡话连篇的儿子让他头痛不已……与此同时，冷漠的人际关系也让巴迪感到现实并没有想象中的那么温情脉脉，忙碌的纽约客们也渐渐忘记了心底那份淡漠的关怀，所有人似乎都忘记了圣诞的真正含义。
假期结束的日子一天天的邻近，巴迪必须在最后日子里选择自己的命运——是留下来改变这个情感淡漠的现实世界，还是回到那个熟悉却又让自己无所适从的精灵世界，巴迪的选择将在11月7号揭晓。
[幕后阵容]
由身高1米92的威尔·法瑞尔来饰演“大个子巴迪”确实十分合适。法瑞尔一直是NBC电视台的红人，他曾连续7年在NBC王牌喜剧节目《周末夜现场》(Saturday Night Live)中担纲主演，并因此获得过两次艾美奖提名，是该节目开办以来最受欢迎的演员。2002年起，他告别《周末夜现场》，开始全职进军影坛。此前，他已经在多部喜剧片中扮演过小角色，例如《王牌大贱谍》、《杰与鲍伯的反击》、《祖兰德》等等，今年2月的喜剧片《单身男子俱乐部》是他首次任主角。
威尔谈到自己对巴迪这个角色理解时说：“无知也是一种上天的惠赐，巴迪是个毫无心计的人，他对现实的一无所知使他得以与常人完全不同的方式看待这个世界，他对万事万物的好奇心让他对现实世界费解不已，现代人所缺少的正是这种简简单单的方法论。”
詹姆斯·卡恩在片中饰演巴迪的生父。从1963年踏入电影圈开始，卡恩已经出演了近70部电影，近期作品包括《道格镇》里给人留下深刻印象的Big man。其实早在1972年，他就因在《教父》中的萨尼一角而获得奥斯卡最佳男配角提名，而后更是在余下的两部当中包办了该角，赢得影评人的交口称赞。
詹姆斯·凯恩对自己饰演的评价起来也是苛刻异常：“巴迪的父亲是个独裁主义者，他的出版公司位于纽约的帝国大厦里面，他是一个以利益至上的老家伙，为了确保这个打扮怪异的冒失鬼巴迪不是个骗子，他竟然大费周章的做了DNA的亲子鉴定。这样的老头儿确实需要灌输温情。”
不要以为詹姆斯·凯恩是本片惟一的高龄演员，在片中饰演圣诞老人的爱德华·艾斯纳今年已经74岁了，在电视界声名显赫，手中握有三座金球奖和五座艾美奖。他饰演圣诞老人一角再合适不过，在1996年的真人动画电视剧集《圣诞老人的故事》里，他就尝试过这个角色。 小静的几个帖子都先在单曲顶上放放，回头再定夺[s:9]
